IPL 2025 Return: BCCI Weighs Three Different Restart Timelines
Mumbai: With the recent ceasefire easing tensions from the India-Pakistan conflict, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively working on resuming the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As per Times of India sources, the BCCI has drafted three potential scheduling formats to bring the tournament back on track.
The IPL was put on a week-long hold on May 9 due to heightened military conflict, but with peace talks now prevailing, BCCI is gearing up to finalize a resumption plan. A key meeting of the IPL Governing Council is scheduled for later today where a final call on the tournament’s structure is expected.

IPL 2025 : BCCI Evaluates Triple Scheduling Scenarios for IPL 2025 Restart
“A decision could be made today. The BCCI has three schedule drafts ready—one retaining all the original venues, while the other two propose fewer hosting locations for logistical ease,” a source familiar with the developments shared with TOI.
The most optimistic scenario would see the tournament resume from the exact point it was halted, with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) hosting Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Lucknow, the match that was originally slated for May 9.
An official announcement from the BCCI regarding the revised schedule is anticipated on Monday.
Meanwhile, franchise teams are already swinging back into action in anticipation of the final phase. On Sunday, Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, held an optional training session at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
IPL 2025 : Punjab Kings Coaches Stay Put, Aussies Fly Home as BCCI Works to Revive IPL 2025
As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 remains on temporary pause, several key updates have surfaced from the Punjab Kings camp. All members of the coaching staff, including head coach Ricky Ponting, assistant coach Brad Haddin, and bowling coach James Hopes, have opted to remain in India during the ongoing wait for the tournament’s resumption.
However, the franchise’s four Australian players — Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie, and Xavier Bartlett — have returned to Australia amid the temporary suspension. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Marco Jansen and Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai have relocated to Dubai, likely awaiting further developments.
IPL 2025 : BCCI’s Stance on IPL Resumption
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that no final decision has been made yet regarding the tournament’s restart. “The BCCI secretary and IPL chairman are in active discussions with franchises and stakeholders. We are doing our best to restart the league soon,” Shukla said.
Echoing the sentiment, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia noted that consultations with all involved parties — including broadcasters, sponsors, and hosting state associations — will begin in the coming days. Importantly, the BCCI intends to seek approval from the Government of India before finalizing any rescheduling plans.
Playoff Race Heats Up
With Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) already out of the playoff race, the remaining seven teams are fiercely competing for the final four spots. Gujarat Titans currently top the points table with 16 points, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Lucknow Super Giants.
