India vs Australia 5th Test, Day 2 LIVE: Bumrah Exits SCG After Injury Scare, Kohli Takes Charge as Acting Captain

India vs Australia

Team India, led by Jasprit Bumrah, have a big day two lined up at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) as they hope to wrest control of the proceedings in the fifth Test against Australia. With the tourists getting bowled out for 185 under tough batting conditions, the visiting captain struck early to remove Usman Khawaja, making life difficult for Australia.

With Bumrah getting involved in a verbal war with Sam Konstas, the right-arm speedster was fired up and hence, got the better of Khawaja. He is likely to feed off the same on day two and Australia face a litmus task of handling Bumrah and co. on a green wicket in Sydney.

With skipper Rohit Sharma opting out of the fifth Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy, stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah’s 2024 interview with Forbes India for their Showstoppers 2024 segment on his approach to aggressive bowling has garnered some momentum again.

India vs Australia: Shy Yet Fierce

Despite his camera shyness, Jasprit Bumrah is widely acknowledged as one of the fiercest pacers in modern cricket and a standout talent in the global cricketing arena.

Opening up about his aggressive style, Bumrah once explained, as quoted by Hindustan Times, “I am aggressive, but I don’t need to hurl abuses at batsmen. Growing up, I saw bowlers on TV shouting and confronting batters, but when I tried it, I became overly aggressive. It didn’t suit me, especially in club cricket.”

He further added, “Realizing I was crossing the line, I consciously worked to balance my aggression.”

Staying composed is now his secret weapon. “When I’m calm and relaxed, no one can predict what’s going on in my mind, which gives me a mental edge and helps me make better decisions,” Bumrah reflected.

India vs Australia: The Dual Sides of Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah’s shy nature in front of the camera contrasts sharply with his reputation as a lethal pacer in world cricket.

Explaining his approach to aggression, Bumrah shared with Hindustan Times: “I’m naturally aggressive, but I don’t need to use words to prove it. Watching bowlers on TV confront batsmen as a kid, I tried to emulate them. But when I applied that aggression in club cricket, it backfired.”

To overcome this, Bumrah consciously trained himself to remain composed. “Staying calm helps me maintain a mental advantage. When people can’t read my mind, I’m able to stay focused and make smarter decisions,” he reflected.

India vs Australia: Bumrah and Konstas’ Rivalry

Whether in the 4th Test at Melbourne or the 5th in Sydney, the clash between Jasprit Bumrah and Australia’s Sam Konstas has been an intriguing subplot, marked by silent but intense moments.
