NEW DELHI: Pakistan on Saturday continued aggressive military actions with drone strikes and other weaponry near western boundaries. The Army issued a statement regarding ‘Operation Sindoor’ on Saturday morning saying that Pakistani drones spotted flying over Khasa Cantt in Amritsar were subsequently destroyed.
Indian Army Destroys Enemy Drones:
Tensions continue to mount along India’s western border as Pakistan intensifies its use of drones and other munitions. Around 5 AM today, multiple armed drones originating from Pakistan were detected flying over the sensitive Khasa Cantt area in Amritsar. Indian Army’s air defence units acted swiftly, intercepting and neutralizing the aerial threats.
In a strong statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) for the Indian Army condemned the provocation: “Pakistan’s brazen use of armed drones poses a serious threat to India’s sovereignty and civilian safety. Such hostile acts will be met with decisive military responses.”
Meanwhile, residents in various parts of Jammu, including Rajouri, Poonch, and Akhnoor, awoke to loud explosions and air raid sirens on Saturday morning. These were later confirmed to be the result of cross-border drone activity and mortar shelling.
In Udhampur and Jammu city, panic spread as pre-dawn blasts shook homes and confirmed a fresh wave of drone intrusions from across the border. Officials confirmed the incidents were part of a larger series of Pakistani provocations, heightening fears among civilians and prompting increased surveillance and military readiness.
Drone Intrusions and Artillery Duels Intensify Tensions Across India-Pakistan Border :
Defence sources confirmed widespread drone activity along the India-Pakistan border on Friday night, with sightings reported at 26 different locations, ranging from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir to Bhuj in Gujarat. The incursion zones spanned four states—Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat—including critical sites like Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala.
Heavy cross-border artillery shelling continued overnight across multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC), with confirmed strikes in Rajouri, Poonch, Surankote, and Nowshera. The exchange of fire underscores escalating hostilities in the region.
Tensions have sharply risen following India’s targeted military strikes on nine terrorist launchpads located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir earlier this week. These retaliatory operations were launched in response to the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, most of them tourists.
India : Boosts Border Surveillance Amid Escalating Security Threats
According to senior military officials, new drone-detection systems and advanced radar units have been deployed in sensitive zones across Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Night patrols have also been ramped up, with Indian Army units conducting regular combing operations to preempt infiltration attempts.
“India will not tolerate any threat to its sovereignty. All hostile actions will be met with a strong and calibrated response,” a defense spokesperson stated.
Meanwhile, diplomatic channels remain tense, with India lodging a formal protest over the recent drone breaches and cross-border artillery attacks. The Ministry of External Affairs has reiterated its demand for Pakistan to abide by the 2003 ceasefire agreement and dismantle terror infrastructure operating from its soil.
