Earthquake : Horror in Tibet and Nepal
A powerful series of earthquakes, the strongest recorded at 7.1 magnitude on the Richter scale, struck Tibet near the Nepal-Tibet border early Tuesday morning.
The tremors were felt across a wide region, impacting parts of India, Nepal, and Bhutan. According to Chinese state media, the disaster has claimed at least 53 lives and injured 62 others.
Dramatic videos circulating on social media captured the chaos as buildings trembled and residents rushed to find safety. The footage highlighted the terrifying reality of the quake’s impact.

Earthquake Strikes Tibet : 53 Dead, Dozens Injured
At 9:05 a.m. (0105 GMT) on Tuesday, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Tingri, a rural county in Tibet known as the northern gateway to the Everest region.
The powerful quake hit the northern foothills of the Himalayas near one of Tibet’s most sacred cities, resulting in at least 53 deaths. Tremors were felt across neighboring countries, including Nepal, Bhutan, and India, causing buildings to sway and sparking widespread panic.

Earthquake Rocks Tibet: Many Buildings Destroyed
A powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale shook Nepal on Tuesday morning, sending tremors across Delhi-NCR and parts of North India.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake occurred at 6:35 a.m., with its epicenter located 93 kilometers northeast of Lobuche near the Nepal-Tibet border. The region, where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates converge, is known for its seismic activity, often causing significant uplifts in the Himalayan mountains.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), the earthquake struck Dingri County near the Nepal border at 9:05 a.m. (0105 GMT) with a magnitude of 6.8. Chinese state media confirmed at least 53 fatalities and reported severe damage in communities within 5 kilometers of the epicenter, located 380 kilometers from Lhasa, Tibet’s capital.
Earthquake : Scores Injured as Quake Devastates Tibet
The USGS noted that the region has experienced 10 earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater in the past century. However, this is the most powerful quake recorded within a 200-kilometer radius in the last five years.
Nepal, situated on a major geological faultline where the Indian tectonic plate collides with the Eurasian plate, has faced devastating earthquakes in the past. In 2015, a 7.8-magnitude quake killed nearly 9,000 people, injured over 22,000, and destroyed more than half a million homes.

National broadcaster CCTV confirmed that at least 53 fatalities occurred on the Tibetan side following the earthquake.
The tremors were also felt across Delhi-NCR and several parts of North India, including regions in Bihar.
